Exeter International Women’s Festival

A free day of live music, dance, stalls, spoken word, workshops, storytelling, open mic, poetry, speakers, discussion, food and art at the Exeter International Women’s Festival, celebrating all women.

In the auditorium there are music and performances from

  • The amazing fiddle player Ali from Spin 2 accompanied by singer, guitarist Jamie
  • All female choir Generation Exe
  • Jan playing melodies on an oud
  • Italian music and dancing from Ilaria and her band Trikkeballakke.
  • Poetry from Pete the Poet
  • Rapping from Wasim
  • Bluesy sounds from The Real Ish Band
  • Gorgeous harmonies from Paul and Tracey The Harmony Hounds.
  • The Academy of Music and Sound performers
  • Music from the Academy of Music and Sound and Exeter College students

There are stalls and multicultural food, with an opportunity to join in with storytelling, and open mic sessions in the Secret Garden.

Workshops and taster sessions suitable for all abilities include

  • Creative writing
  • Yoga
  • Belly dancing
  • Bilad Al Sham Folklore
  • Dance movement
  • Mono and easy relief printing in the Double Elephant workshop

A discussion panel focusing on various issues throughout the day featuring international and refugee women and discussions on

  • Young women in the music industry
  • Women and activism
  • Violence against women
  • Women’s health the gender data gap

The event is free and you are welcome to join for the whole day or just drop in. The Phoenix cafe bar will be open as usual .
