‘The West Country people are a courageous lot, it is only right that one of their representatives should show some courage ’ Nancy Astor
100 years ago, Nancy Astor became the first woman to sit in Parliament, representing the Plymouth ward of Sutton. Down Stage Write have commissioned a collection of brand new short plays by writers from Devon and Cornwall.
From the sometimes controversial Astor to todays MPs, Plymouth to America, the First World War to the present, these plays ask questions about democracy, equality, and identity.
Down Stage Write is a new theatre company committed to creating development and production opportunities for playwrights in Devon and Cornwall.
