Commissioned Performers

Vibha | Dashavataras

Dashavataras explores the stories of the incarnations of the Hindu God Lord Vishnu, through the classical Indian dance style of Bharatanatyam.

Isabella Kavanagh | Stream of Consciousness

Combining poetry, illustration and monologue, Stream of Consciousness invites you to take a dip into the self exploration of a neurodiverse individual attempting to adapt, learn and grow in the most transparent way as possible; navigating this voyage in the form of a jellyfish.

Charlie Ranken & Bernadette Mol | We are all made of stories

We are all made of stories is an honest attempt of two women, working with each other, on a seed of an idea. A poet and a mover come together to find a way to translate words into a tangible, physical language.

Jaz Brown | The Vengeance of the Earth Gnomes

The Vengeance of the Earth Gnomes is an all ages choose-your-own-path folk tale. Based on Devon folklore, this interactive game theatre experience enables the audience to make choices for the story, and roll giant dice to see how they play out.

A celebration of our cultural community  | Mon 9 Aug – Sun 15 Aug

Reason to Create is a pop-up festival in which we celebrate and showcase some of the incredible versatility, resilience and creativity of members of our city’s cultural community.

We have thrown our doors open for a week of free, low cost and pay-what-you-like events created by artists from our Creative Hub, that span a range of art-forms in a range of spaces in and around our building. Expect to find theatre shows, comedy, music, film & art, an insight into creative processes, networking events and a vibrant range of exciting, fresh ideas on show.

Inspired by the artists who told us that Exeter Phoenix offered them ‘a reason to create’ over lockdown, we are offering this platform to artists and audiences alike to get a taste of some of what makes the cultural community we share so special.

VENUE: Exeter Phoenix, Auditorium

*Subject to a £1.50 ticketing system charge. We don’t charge this to make a profit. Find out more >>
