In this two-hour workshop, we’ll analyse some of the greatest characters from fiction. What makes them so memorable? When we can understand this, we’ll be able to make our own characters similarly spectacular.

In this workshop, you’ll create a character that moving forwards, could be the star of your short story or novel.

I’ll lead you through a series of prompts to help you develop a character that you and your potential readers will root for and want to spend time with.

No previous writing experience is needed. This workshop is suitable for all.

About the tutor:

Carla Jenkins is represented by Madeleine Milburn and her debut novel is due to be published by Hachette as a key title in 2024. Carla has been placed in several national and international writing competitions in the past three years and is currently studying for a PhD in Creative Writing whilst working on her second novel. She has a Masters in Creative Writing and is a fully qualified teacher.
