Celtic Designs: The Cross

These beautiful and complex interlacing designs, seen in such manuscripts as the Book of Kells, are remarkably easy to draw if you are armed with a simple and effective technique! You will be amazed what you can achieve and you will take home a Celtic cross that you have made to amaze your friends with!

This course is open to anyone, but it is assumed that students have no previous experience and we will start from the very basics.

Students to Bring:

• Ruler
• A fine black pen for outlining
• We have various brushes, felt tips, and coloured pencils but feel free to bring any of your own you may want to use

TUTOR
David Nicholls studied at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art in Oxford University. He subsequently worked as a freelance illustrator and lettering artist, executing many commissions for Oxford colleges including stone inscriptions. He was instrumental in the setting up of Oxford Scribes in 1983 and is involved with several other calligraphy societies. He has been a teacher of calligraphy, design and general arts subjects in adult education since 1986 and has taught widely at a variety of residential colleges, including Denman College where he has been teaching regularly since 1994.
