30 Million Years In The Making; The Heritage of Ball Clay

Year eight students from Teign School and guests from Dame Hannah’s Tuesday art class have been working in clay to explore ideas and make artefacts illustrating the geological formation of the Bovey Basin in Devon.  It will form part of a travelling interactive exhibition called 30 Million Years In The Making; The Heritage of Ball Clay.  The Bovey Basin is the site of one of the most important deposits of Ball Clay in the world.  Ball Clay is relatively rare and highly valued within the ceramics industry for its plasticity.  It is the basic constituent of many household products from tiles and sanitary ware to electro-porcelain and as filler in plastics and rubber.

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
