Dewey Decibels: Music in the Library

That’s right, everybody’s favourite pun based music night is back. The third instalment of Dewey Decibels! A night of eclectic acts at Exeter Library, co-produced by Obvious Events, October features the award-winning Bristol based alt-folk trio Hands of the Heron. Plus support from artists Anna Anise and Moya Silk.

Hands of the Heron are a dreamfolk trio from Bristol, UK. Their instantly recognisable vocal harmonies are delivered by three frontwomen – Bec Garthwaite, Bethany M. Roberts & Claire Vine – each of whom brings a signature writing style to the band’s mercurial sound.

They move effortlessly between sparse choral folk and spellbinding chamber pop, richly layered with an assortment of strings, drones and reeds. Their long-awaited second album 13 Moons was released in February 2021 on their own DIY label Cuculi Records, and has been praised as “songwriting mastery that perfectly delivers reverberating folk-pop” (Tap The Feed). Esteemed jazz critic Ted Gioia recommended 13 Moons as one of his top recordings for 2021.

Anna Anise is a warm summer breeze of trad-influenced folk, captivating audiences with her lyrical storytelling and glorious melodies. Anna’s passion for community through music is evident in her infectious energy onstage and ability to bring a whole room together with a hooky chorus.

“Truly great modern folk music” – Neil King, FATEA

Moya Silk is a Devon-based musician with hints of shoegaze, grunge and post-punk. Drawing comparisons to 2010s indie artists such as Courtney Barnett as well as women in the alternative 90s scene such as PJ Harvey and Liz Phair, Moya’s debut EP was released last year.

Obvious Events is an events promotion company run by young people with the goal to support young people. Music is a huge part of our community and of young peoples lives and it is our joy to give young people opportunities to shine and share their diverse music tastes and creations with the world!
