‘Horse’ is made from horse hair sourced from a type of canvas traditionally used in men’s tailoring. Artist Alice Clough has deconstructed 5 metres of this canvas to expose the horse hair weft, a painstaking process during which she contemplated both the horse and the suit as archetypes. For Gallery333 Alice is exploring how horse hair moves, and what this movement evokes. Alice is a research-led artist whose work is informed by her training and current doctoral research in archaeology and anthropology. Alice works with themes of wonder, rurality, folklore, and viewing the world through the lens of deep pasts and deep futures. Her sculptural work is particularly shaped by the vibrancy of materials, their stories and powers.
