Join Spork! for a night stuffed full of spoken-word poetry, as we showcase our 4 incredible Spork Up! Artists. Plus a headline set from celebrated poet Bohdan Piasecki.

Spork Up! is the annual artist development programme from Spork!, supporting local artists to make amazing work. This year our artists are Kate Massey-Chase, Ceri Baker, Shaday Barrowes-Bayewunmi and Hannah Temme.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

KATE MASSEY-CHASE is a community arts facilitator, academic, activist, and writer. She’s a lecturer at Plymouth Marjon University, where she’s leading a new MA in Arts, Health and Wellbeing.

CERI BAKER is a Devon based performer and writer. She’s performed her work across the South West and is the current WOMAD Festival Slam Champion

SHADAY BARROWES-BAYEWUNMI is a Plymouth-based spoken word and performance artist exploring how vulnerability and empowerment can co-exist in a charmingly LOUD way.

HANNAH TEMME is a spoken-word performer, dancer and producer based in Newquay, exploring the intersection between femininity and the natural world, ecological breakdown, and the cheery topic of mortality!

BOHDAN PIASECKI is a poet from Poland based in Birmingham. He’s taken his poems from the upstairs room in an Eastbourne pub to the main stage of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, from underground Tokyo clubs to tramways in Paris, from niche podcasts to BBC Radio. He enjoys the creative chaos of big field festivals just as much as the composed concentration of literary events.

Bohdan founded the first poetry slam in Poland before moving to the UK to get a doctorate in translation studies. He is currently Assistant Professor in Creative Writing at the University of Birmingham.

Bohdan is also leading a workshop on Performing Poetry, on Sat 19th Nov at 3 PM.
