SHOWING TIMES:

The Bill Douglas Cinema Museum, in partnership with Exeter Phoenix, presents a rare opportunity to view all of director, Bill Douglas’s remarkable trilogy of powerful films of childhood and youth in one performance. The screening marks the 25th anniversary of the museum here in Exeter founded by the collection Bill Douglas put together with his friend, Devonian Peter Jewell, and the publication of a new book on the filmmaker Bill Douglas A Film Artist.

Original and powerful in his artistic vision, Douglas’s three short films are weaved together through the journey of Jamie. Inspired by Douglas’s own experiences as a child we follow Jamie from growing up in a poverty-stricken mining village in the post-war era, at the mercy of brutal, loveless surroundings. But these films are not a depressing experience. Jamie is a survivor, bold and curious, and his story is ultimately redemptive. The cinematography is beautiful, creating visual poetry from startling, bleak monochrome images. When Bill Douglas died in 1991, British cinema lost one of its most original, and neglected artists and The Trilogy has been an important influence on many contemporary filmmakers .
