In celebration of the exhibition Dartmoor: A Wild and Wondrous Region, RAMM has teamed up with Exeter Phoenix to showcase a season of films that have been shot on or inspired by Dartmoor. Each screening will be preceded by a special introductory talk.
The First film version of Eden Philpotts’ play The Farmers Wife was directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
The Story revolves around a rugged widowed farmer (Samuel Sweetland) in search of a new bride. However everyone he meets proves insufficient, either because they fail to meet his exalted standards or because they want no part of him. Eventually the farmer realises his ideal mate has been under his nose the whole time.
Alfred Hitchcocks adaptation of Philpotts’ play was his seventh feature film and is a wonderfully crafted charming comedy of rural manners.
