We’re going to need a bigger boat…or park. After several fantastic sell out screenings at last year’s event, this summer we’ll be returning with not five, but six nights of cinematic magic under the stars. Enjoy!
Dir. Baz Luhrmann | USA | 1996 | 120 mins
It’s been 20 years since Leo and Claire graced the silver screen as literary history’s most tragic, romantic duo.
Amongst gang-fire and boomboxes, Luhrmanns famously audacious take on this star-crossed love story is a whirlwind of hardball action, rowdy humor and rapturous romance.
Relocated from fair Verona to Verona Beach, USA, this vibrant, zeitgeisty mid-90s adaptation retains the bard’s original dialogue, performed with gusto by a hip young cast and set to a perfectly-pitched soundtrack, featuring Radiohead, The Cardigans, Des’ree, Garbage among others. The film is studded with fantastic supporting performances from John Leguizamo (Tybalt), Harold Perrineau (Mercutio), Pete Postlethwaite (Friar Laurence), Miriam Margolyes (Nurse) and many more.
Shakespeare has never been this sexy onscreen.
