For ten-year old Sophie, the witching hour arrives at 3am when she is the only one awake. One night, Sophie realises that she is not as alone as she thought when a 24-foot giant appears at her window and whisks her away to the land of the giants for the adventure of a lifetime.

Scared at first, Sophie soon finds out that the giant is actually quite gentle and before long their friendship grows.

However, Sophie soon discovers that not all giants are big and friendly. Her presence soon attracts the unwanted attention of human-eating giants like Bloodbottler and Fleshlumpeater. Sophie and the BFG embark on a quest to rid the country of bad giants once and for all.
