A nationwide celebration for film lovers and green thinkers.
Canada, UK, USA, 2014, 75 mins, dir. Grant Baldwin
We all love food. As a society, we devour countless cooking shows, culinary magazines and foodie blogs. So how could we possibly be throwing nearly 50% of it in the bin?
Filmmakers and food lovers Jen and Grant dive into the issue of waste from farm, through retail, all the way to the back of their own fridge. They pledge to quit grocery shopping and survive only on foods that would otherwise be thrown away. In a nation where one in 10 people is food insecure, the images they capture of squandered groceries are both shocking and strangely compelling.
But as Grants addictive personality turns full tilt towards food rescue, the thrill of the find has unexpected consequences.
Studio 74 is no ordinary cinema. As proud supporters of independent film, we offer exposure for emerging local and national filmmakers and treat our audiences to a unique and diverse viewing experience. Watch out for handpicked short films prior to selected feature screenings.
This film follows traditional herring fisherman, Stephen Perham, as he rows out into Bideford Bay before dawn to shoot his nets. It explores Stephen’s personal crusade to revive the local, sustainable herring fishery and get more people eating Clovelly herring. Part of the Boat Stories series. Find out more here >>
