With introduction from food historian Dr Annie Grey (8.15pm screening only)
Denmark, 1987, 102 mins. Dir Gabriel Axel
The tale of a displaced Parisian chef who comes to live as a servant to two elderly sisters in a frugal Christian community on Denmarks Jutland coast.
At first she bends to the sisters self-disciplined life and diet, and her services are warmly appreciated.
But when a stroke of good fortune leads her to winning the lottery she takes the opportunity to treat the community to a lavish, multi-course masterpiece of French cuisine. Babettes feast is an extraordinary film that delivers one of cinemas most mouthwatering meals.
‘An Oscar-winning tale of everyday passion, magic and miracles a delicacy to savour.’
