Our ai Policy STATEMENT

As a multi-arts venue and creative community, Exeter Phoenix works closely with a wide range of promoters, hirers and artists, supporting an ambitious and varied programme of activity. We regularly receive marketing materials created externally, including artwork and promotional assets. As the way these materials are produced continues to evolve, we feel it’s important to share our perspective on the growing use of generative AI.

We have a commitment to environmental responsibility, to sustaining creative industries, and to respecting the rights of artists whose work is often used to train AI systems without consent, credit, or compensation.

At the same time, we recognise that AI technologies are developing rapidly and that their applications are varied. As an organisation, we may engage with AI in limited and thoughtful ways—for example, as a tool to support research, explore ideas, or help inform early-stage thinking. However, this is distinct from its use in the creation of final artistic or promotional outputs, where we prioritise and value human creativity and authorship.

Where we identify AI-generated content in materials associated with events at our venue, we aim to be transparent. Wherever possible, we are working with visiting artists and companies to requeset alternative, artist-led materials.

We also recognise that AI-generated content may not always be easy to identify. In these instances, we will continue to communicate our position as clearly as we can, in the hope that it contributes to wider conversations and encourages thoughtful choices.

We understand that views on AI vary widely, and we respect that there are many perspectives. We believe it is important to be open about where we stand and to ensure our actions reflect the values of the artists and audiences we support.
