William Luz – “Life” and “Movement”

William Luz is an artist and educator who is concerned with drawing, in that he cares about drawing. Most recently he is interested in how he can draw without making drawings. He makes work about drawing, in a way to think about the personal and performative activity of art making.

His work for Gallery 333 is an attempt to contain drawing, to make a container for the activity of drawing. A figure, drawn onto the rear of the space, after Willian Blake’s Urizen, hemmed in, or maybe comfortable in their containment, is overlaid, overlapped, with drawing. An archive of parts from the studio, cut up, reformed, layered and pieced together; a document of action and inaction, drawing and not, a montage of many little moments.
