Power, Politics, Provocations and Satire in comedy
What is the class? A safe space to share thoughts and feelings.
Why should I go? Finding the funny is a valuable skill and life enhancer; it strengthens many interactions and perspectives.
This class focuses on investigating and developing material that has political intentions. Everything is political to a greater or lesser degree but how we mine newspaper articles for political satire and performance is a skill that can be learnt and developed. Lets have fun mimicking, mocking and creating satirical material by using comedy making techniques including character development, physical comedy, exaggeration, wit and much much more.
The day will be structured by writing and editing material, followed by an end of day sharing of your ideas. Yeah folks youre going to do a snappy gig. This will run for the last 30 minutes you are welcome to invite guests to attend at 4pm.
Run by Dr Maggie Irving: teacher, speaker, and performer. PhD: The Female Clown Plymouth University. Lectured in comedy at, Winchester University. Runs various workshops from: stand-up, physical comedy, contemporary clowning, and public speaking in the South West.
