Why so serious? Clowning around; acting the fool questioning and laughing at ourselves. Creating comic business
Why should I go? Finding the funny is a valuable skill and life enhancer; it strengthens many interactions and perspectives.
This class focuses on the art of clowning and how we might include clown skills in a performance. We will endeavour to maximise our physical comic potential and use mime, facial and physical gestures, emotional response and the importance of clocking an audience. How many clown characters can you develop? How might you insert clowning into a set? The day will explore these questions and leave you knowing that you dont have to be a clown per se to clown.
The day will be structured by writing and editing material, followed by an end of day sharing of your ideas. Yeah folks youre going to do a snappy gig. This will run for the last 30 minutes you are welcome to invite guests to attend at 4pm.
Run by Dr Maggie Irving: teacher, speaker, and performer. PhD: The Female Clown Plymouth University. Lectured in comedy at, Winchester University. Runs various workshops from: stand-up, physical comedy, contemporary clowning, and public speaking in the South West.
