January 29, 2024. Workers at the Palestinian Red Crescent Society receive an emergency call. A terrified 6-year-old girl is trapped in a car under fire in Gaza, pleading for rescue. While trying to keep her on the line, they do everything they can to get an ambulance to her, but are hindered by complex rescue protocols. Her name was Hind Rajab.

Kaouther Ben Hania’s fierce, shattering film asks us to bear witness to the unspeakable suffering of Gaza’s children in the war with Israel. Like her Oscar-nominated 2023 release Four Daughters, it’s a striking blend of documentary and fiction, and it uses audio from real phone conversations to lay bare the agonising vulnerability and suffering of ordinary people amid horrendous violence. Winner of the Silver Lion at Venice International Film Festival, The Voice of Hind Rajab is Tunisia’s entry for Best International Feature at the upcoming Oscars.
