With Four of Swords and Isobel Jeffery
A disarmingly honest self-portrait of aspiring actor Isobel Jeffery: the heroic, poignant tale of how she has worked to overcome learning disabilities and health problems, and fought to overcome other people’s limiting preconceptions of what she might be capable of. The show describes the true story of how she struggled in her teenage years with misdiagnosed epilepsy, the consequences of this on her health and lifestyle, and how she is still fighting now to realise her dream of being an actor.
Throughout the performance, you can expect to find demonstrations of the tactics Isobel uses to learn written scripts, a mind-bending quiz on world mythology and some short films of fun skits and sketches, all created out of Isobel’s fabulously wacky imagination.
Age Recommendation: 12+
Content Guidance: Reference to brain injury, brief but intimate description of use of a feeding tube
Accessibility Notes: Films are subtitled but live performance elements are not.
This is a Relaxed Performance: Audience allowed to come & go, lights will be dimmed but not total blackout, Phil and Izzy will greet the audience “as themselves” before re-entering in character
About Four of Swords
For the last ten years, Four of Swords has been creating relentlessly visceral, vibrant and immersive theatre, film and education projects across the South West. Four of Swords have been collaborating with Isobel for a few years now. We recently created Madame Thespia’s Deliciously Diverse Cabaret, supported by Exeter Phoenix, Exeter Northcott, The Pelican Project and Libraries Unlimited, a quarterly open mic night for all, especially designed to platform artists from underrepresented backgrounds, and we are currently launching ‘Ambitious Performers’, a new acting group for neurodiverse performers.
