Plaster Cast Theatre proudly presents Sound Cistem, the acclaimed Offie Award- winning show, at Exeter Phoenix for International Trans Day of Visibility!

Two transgender performers say, “up yours!” to the gender binary and invite you to their radical dance party!  Under disco lights, over pulsing music, a queer celebration takes place.

Set in nightclubs, Sound Cistem is an exuberant verbatim show about the cisgender gaze on the transgender body. Featuring recorded interviews from trans and non-binary people, a self-love manifesto is made through riotous, glittering disco. This duo keep moving to reject conformity and shame, despite the current transgender debate. See the beauty in these bodies, and your own, too.

Post Show Discussion

Following the performance, join us for an open post show discussion where you can meet and engage with your community, explore what you’ve seen, discuss the problems it raises and reflect together on the kind of queer community we’d like to see here in Devon. The discussion will be chaired by Lena Worwood (Equality Diversity and Inclusion Advisor at the University of Exeter, Co-Chair of the Staff Network and organiser of the Exeter Trans and Non-Binary Café) and will consist of Ayden & Lizard (Plaster Cast Theatre), Ava Brownjohn (University Staff LGBTQ Network Volunteer BME Liaison and Coordinator) and Jasper Privett (Co-Chair of the LGBTQ+ Staff Network, organiser with Exeter Trans and Nonbinary Café).
