Frederick Wiseman’s gastronomic dream of a film captures daily life in one of the world’s most prestigious restaurants that’s held three Michelin stars for more than 50 years.

The groundbreaking American director’s latest documentary offers an absorbing portrait of the esteemed French culinary family Troisgros and their restaurants, including Le Bois sans feuilles, holder of three Michelin stars for 55 years. As third generation restauranteur Michel Troisgros hands over responsibility for the cuisine to his son César, we step inside day-to-day life at one of the world’s best restaurants. From early morning market selection and menu planning, through preparation and service, we stand alongside chefs, suppliers and customers, witnessing in close detail the creation and presentation of food and drink of the highest quality. This process is paralleled by Wiseman’s own artistry and technique, employed here in the service of a subject he clearly relishes.

At the director’s request the film will not have an interval. However, Wiseman understands the audience my wish to take comfort breaks throughout and are therefore freely encourage to leave the cinema and come back in if they wish.
