IRL: Cinema Curation Workshop

Join representatives from Exeter Phoenix, Two Short Nights Film Festival, Forbidden Worlds Film Festival, Bill Douglas Cinema Museum and BFI Young Programmers to discover the art of cinema curation and how programmes are put together.

This workshop session will be a hands-on chance to learn about the process and approaches of Curation and Exhibition from the perspectives of cinemas, festivals, museums and pop-up events. It will also be an opportunity to feed into the Exeter Phoenix cinema programme and help shape Studio 74 activity with the ultimate goal of leaving with a shortlist of film titles, chosen by you, that under 25s across Devon will vote to see at Exeter Phoenix in April.

Session Breakdown

  • A brief intro from each of the speakers and how we approach our exhibition landscapes
  • Forbidden Worlds Highlights, challenges and opportunities they have seized

Group activity – each facilitated by a speaker

  • Programming for an under 25 audiences,
  • How to check if a film is available to book
  • Groups will work towards each picking a film title to put into the short list for an Under 25s screening, at Exeter Phoenix in April

Participants will be invited to stay and watch Shorts #4: Pinch Me, I’m Dreaming screening at 1pm as part of Two Short Nights Film Festival. There will be 30 mins between the session ending at this screening and participants will have time for a comfort break in between.
