#Instructions To Live By

#InstructionsToLiveBy is a new billposting project by Preston St Union, which consists of individual phrases, taken from an eclectic range of instruction manuals, from gardening books to self-help guides, pasted up around the city.

Developed during lockdown, #InstructionsToLiveBy was firstly enacted between group members using whiteboards on zoom, then used to communicate through windows, before evolving into a series of printed posters to be displayed in the public realm – including within Exeter Phoenix.

PSU

PSU are an artists’ collective based in Exeter, who make collaborative, participative and performative projects around the guiding principle of ‘artists making things and making things happen’.

#InstructionsToLiveBy was developed on Social ARTery, a new artist-led platform built by Axis and the Social Art Network.

REASON TO CREATE

A celebration of our cultural community  | Mon 9 Aug – Sun 15 Aug

Reason to Create is a pop-up festival in which we celebrate and showcase some of the incredible versatility, resilience and creativity of members of our city’s cultural community.

We have thrown our doors open for a week of free, low cost and pay-what-you-like events created by artists from our Creative Hub, that span a range of art-forms in a range of spaces in and around our building. Expect to find theatre shows, comedy, music, film & art, an insight into creative processes, networking events and a vibrant range of exciting, fresh ideas on show.

Inspired by the artists who told us that Exeter Phoenix offered them ‘a reason to create’ over lockdown, we are offering this platform to artists and audiences alike to get a taste of some of what makes the cultural community we share so special.

Platform

This project appears as part of Exeter Phoenix’s Platform series, which offers artists based in the South West region opportunities to test out ideas, new work and recent developments in their practice.
