Charlie Lewis Marffy – Charity Shop

Charlie Lewis Marffy’s practice focuses on his interest in building a visual language free-associatively through his paintings and drawings. Marffy explores combinations, references, interactions, networks, and idiosyncrasies across a vast array of sources. For this particular project Charlie has chosen four diverse books from a charity shop and responded to their content with a drawing installation. These books are A New Geometry for Schools by Clement V. Durrell, Augustan Book of English Poetry, Chambers Encyclopaedia, and Beethoven – Sonatas Vol. II.

Charlie Lewis Marffy (B.1989, England) is a painter, writer and researcher from Exeter, Devon. Charlie attended Plymouth University and The Royal College of Art and has held residencies in Holland, Cuba, France and Singapore (Most notably at The Institute of Contemporary Arts). More recently Charlie had his debut solo show entitled ‘No Man’s Land’ at Fabien Fryns Fine Art, Dubai in 2023.
