* Descriptive Subtitling (DS)
A service for our Deaf/deaf and hard of hearing customers that displays additional auditory information on the screen.
As well as showing the dialogue, Descriptive Subtitles provide information on other significant sounds. For example: when something is being sung; when a phone rings; when a door slams. This extra information allows customers using the subtitles to access the film more fully.
This Palme d’Or winner from director Sean Baker (Red Rocket, The Florida Project) follows a turbulent relationship between a New York–based exotic dancer and the son of a Russian oligarch.
Sex worker Anora lives in a shabby Brooklyn apartment above the rattle of the subway, but every night, she glams up and puts on a flirty smile for the men at a local club where she finds herself talking to Vanya, a young Russian boy who joyfully throws around his parents’ money. His innocence charms Anora, and the two fall into a comfortable rhythm. She shows him a good time, and he opens the door to a charmed life she could only have imagined. They begin a whirlwind romance that’s soon threatened by Vanya’s powerful family. Anora finds herself gripping onto a fantasy by her long pink fingernails.
Rated 18 – strong sex, drug misuse
