In response to the developing coronavirus situation in the UK, Exeter Phoenix is currently closed to the public. This is a temporary measure and we reviewing this on a month-by-month basis. No events will be taking place during April the vast majority of events will be rescheduled for later in the year. Please note that the team are working through rescheduling a very high volume of events, but please rest assured we will be in touch with all ticket holders in due course. Please bear with us during this time.
Unprecedented closures like this with no confirmed government support will be hugely damaging for charities like Exeter Phoenix and many other sectors. If you are in a position to consider making a donation HERE, we would be extremely grateful.

Cunningham is a cinematic experience about legendary American choreographer Merce Cunningham.
The film follows Merces artistic evolution over three decades of risk and discovery (19441972), from his early years as a struggling dancer in New York City to his emergence as one of the most visionary choreographers in the world.
Misunderstood and rejected by the dance world of his time, Merce persevered against all odds and developed a new dance technique and a new way of thinking about making dance performances in collaboration with composer John Cage and visual artist Robert Rauschenberg. Rooted in both imaginary realms and actual life experiences, the film tells Merces story of becoming Merce through dance and from the point of view of the dancer.
The film features excerpts from Cunninghams works, re-imagined for cinema at interior and exterior locations. The precise choreography of the camera allows viewers to have an experience akin to stepping inside the dance; and the archival materials (16mm/35mm footage, audio, and photographs) evoke the charged atmosphere of the time, while Merces own diagrams and drawings provide insight into his creative process. It is a creating a moving and visceral journey through Merces world.
