Exeter Phoenix Galleries
Welcome to our galleries – the home of contemporary visual arts in Exeter.
Through our galleries programme, we support emerging talent alongside established artists, and offer free access to contemporary visual art for the region. Explore our current exhibitions here >>
Alongside our exhibitions, we are also home to a programme of visual arts events including artist talks, gallery tours, moving image screenings, workshops, commissions, documentaries screenings and more. View the full programme here >>
Our Galleries Programme
Our main contemporary art exhibition space spans two gallery rooms at the entrance to the building. The programme includes exciting and engaging exhibitions from regional, national and international artists with a focus on showing new work. It regularly offers significant, early solo exhibition opportunities to emerging artists, as well as hosting group and touring exhibitions.
Gallery333 is an intimate ‘window’ gallery space, dedicated to exhibiting small, often experimental, contemporary art installations and interventions. You will find it situated near the accessible side entrance to the building.
Located in a busy public space on our ground floor, the Walkway Gallery features exhibitions and creative projects from local groups based in our community.
Double elephant gallery
An exciting collaboration between Exeter Phoenix and Double Elephant Print Workshop. Located in the Café Bar at the heart of our building, this gallery showcases contemporary visual art grounded in printmaking practice. All works are available to purchase.
Platform is a flexible programme that reflects the diversity of contemporary visual arts practice made by artists based in the South West region. It offers opportunities for emerging artists to test out ideas, new work and recent developments in their practice in a public arena. Not fixed to a particular physical location, it uses a variety of spaces and facilities throughout our busy building.
Exeter Contemporary Open
Exeter Contemporary Open is one of the annual highlights of our visual arts programme. Established in 2006, it has come to be recognised as one of the UK’s most prominent regional contemporary art showcases, culminating in a high-profile exhibition in our Phoenix Gallery.
Visual Art Commissions
Over the years, Exeter Phoenix has commissioned a range of new works from visual artists as part of our commitment to nurturing artists and supporting the development of new work in our region.
